I was fortunate to be provided a scholarship by ‘Health Equity Initiative’ to attend a summit titled, Engaging New Allies in the Health Equity Movement. I first must thank my Agency consultant and friend, Carmelo Reyes for nominating me, and of course to The Summit Organizing Committee and Board of Directors for their vote/approval. As a nominee I was videotaped, the day before the summit, and was so impressed with the kind, hardworking, humble Organizing committee.
I remember clearly…. the warmth from Dr. Upal Basu, Dr. Lalitha Ramanathapuram, Dr. Alka Mansukhani, Glen Ellis, the producer, the photographer, but most importantly the Founding President, Dr. Renata Schiavo..what a brilliant, caring, hard-working, inspiring woman. Thank you Dr. Schiavo for allowing me to be part of and for allowing me to attend the Summit. Your inspiration and commitment to highlighting how social and economic factors affect the health and well-being of our communities. Boots on the ground! One person at a time! I’ve learned and witnessed… works! HEI, thank you again for allowing me to be part of your hard work!
